Cancelling your Appointment

Please phone the surgery if you wish to cancel your appointment.

Appointments are often in short supply so please ring and let us know if you cannot attend. It means that the appointment can then be given to somebody else.

Teaching & Training

We are privileged to be an accredited training practice, and as such are involved in the postgraduate training of fully qualified doctors who wish to enter the specialty of General Practice.

These GP registrars usually work in the practice for one year as part of their specialist family doctor training, and their work is supervised by Dr McAreavy. The GP registrar is encouraged to take on long term problems which are presented by the patient to him/her, in association with the patient's own family doctor. They often have particular expertise in another branch of medicine as well.

Their training involves the occasional use of video in consultation. This is by prior and well-informed agreement with the patient when booking the appointment and is agreed again after the consultation.

On occasion, we may have medical students at the practice, usually from Queen’s University. Their work is supervised by Dr.McAreavy, but you may come across a medical student working with any member of the practice team.

If you do not wish a medical student to be present, just tell us and your wishes will be respected.

As well as assisting in the training of young doctors, we believe that this continuous involvement in medical education helps the continuing focus by the practice on the provision of high quality patient care.
