Self-management of minor conditions will give GPs more time to treat more serious conditions

From 1st May 2017 we will be promoting patients to self-treat the following minor conditions:

Condition/ OTC Indication

Examples of medicines available for purchase

Aches and pains (mild) e.g. headache, occasional migraine

Anti-inflammatory gels e.g. ibuprofen

 

Oral pain killers e.g. Paracetamol, Ibuprofen liquid & tablets

 

Coughs, colds & sore throats

Cough bottles  

 

Lozenges

 

Throat Sprays

 

Nasal Decongestants

Hayfever and allergies

Oral antihistamines e.g. cetirizine, loratadine, chlorphenamine

 

Antihistamine creams

 

 

Advice and/or treatment for these conditions are available from your pharmacy. Your pharmacist is available to discuss these conditions further.

 

Please also be aware of the Minor Ailments Scheme, which is available from your local pharmacy free of charge to treat a range of conditions.
